There’s no magic sauce, here, really. You still need a crisp resume. You still need the right look and the right interview outfits. You still need to have the right mix of hard and soft skills to succeed in the targeted job. I guess what’s new is you also need to be on LinkedIn, and you need to understand how to find people using LinkedIn, Facebook, association lists, alumni networks, and so on. The biggest change in the job market in the last 20 years is the amount of information a jobseeker can find, if she knows how to do it. You can find anybody, now, and reach out to them. That’s more of a skillset than a tool.
